Ottawa firefighters doused a fire that broke out in an unused grocery warehouse in the east end early Tuesday evening.
No one was in the building at the time.
Ottawa Fire Services received a 911 call just after 5 p.m. reporting flames from the rear of the large commercial warehouse building at 400 Industrial Ave., between Neighbourhood Way and Trainyards Drive.
Firefighters arrived at the scene five minutes later and found smoke and flames visible from the rear of the warehouse. The building was empty, except for shelving.
Firefighters searched the building to confirm there was no one inside, while a crew extinguished the flames from the outside. Firefighters opened a section of the wall and ceiling to ensure the fire was fully doused and shut off the power to the area.
The fire was declared under control just before 6 p.m. It is believed that damage was contained to a section of the rear wall.
The cause of the blaze was under investigation.
